Refinery Refurbishment
The Sugar House is a Grade II Listed heritage building dating back to 1843. Copper Projects were appointed by Vastint UK to carry out the refurbishment, structural works and three modern extensions to this former sugar refinery and Victorian warehouse.
We completely gutted the five-storey building before inserting a combination of glulam, CLT, and steel hybrid structures. This iconic East London property now features three double-height, self-contained workspaces, eight residential units and a lift tower.
To maintain the site’s historic architecture while infusing the client’s contemporary styling, materials used include exposed timber and brickwork, copper and sheet rain-screen cladding, and varied stone colours. Building materials were selected in compliance with the appropriate British Standards and BREEAM.
Copper Projects delivered:
- Full internal and external refurbishment
- Three new build extensions
- Eight apartments
- Five CAT A fit-outs
- New lift tower installed
