For Copper Projects, the move to Stratford was an opportunity to celebrate a growing team and bustling first two years in business by creating a space that embodied our company values. Our new office had to make people feel welcome, guided and collaborative. And we had the perfect foundation with a show-stopping location next to the River Lea.
As the first tenant on the Sugar House Island development, it was important the design worked with the surrounding area and still established the Copper Projects identity.
Achieving a warm and open feeling was a key objective for our designs. With one side of the office receiving floods of natural light and the other very little, we used expansive, ceiling to floor windows and doors to optimise the light and create the illusion of space. We kept the interior open too by only fitting one set of internal doors; these doors resemble Scandi design with dark, vertical frames serving as a statement feature throughout the fit-out. With the Southside of the office opening onto views across the Sugar House Island courtyard, it was easy to maintain the East London essence.
Exposed ceilings and a large metal shelving unit echo the building's once industrial roots, while the kitchen's light plywood and speckled marble soften the overall finish for a contemporary edge. High tables for the project area provide the option to stand while working for those in need of some blood flow to the legs. Plants are intrinsically placed throughout to produce biophilic benefits, and sleek acoustic whiteboards absorb sound which can typically be an issue for open-plan offices.
As a growing business, Copper Projects required an agile workplace with flexible infrastructure and above all else heart. This fit-out succeeds our expectations and provides us with the perfect base for our people.
